Friday, 30. October 2026
Kulturhuset Hovedscenen
Doors: 19:00
Show: 20:00 – 21:30
Tromsø World proudly opens its 2026 lineup with one of the most powerful, original, and emotionally resonant voices in the Nordic region: Katarina Barruk.
An artist who doesn’t just perform — she carries an entire language, culture, and history with her on stage.
With her magnetic presence and a voice that can quiet an entire room, Barruk has emerged as one of Sápmi’s most defining musical voices. Her music blends joik, pop, contemporary art music, and symphonic soundscapes into something unmistakably her own — raw, poetic, boundary-breaking.
A fierce advocate for her critically endangered mother tongue, Ume Sámi, Barruk brings the language to global audiences with pride and passion. In recent years she has appeared at some of the world’s most respected festivals, including Roskilde, Øyafestivalen, Reeperbahn, WOMEX, and Iceland Airwaves.
In 2025 she made history as the first Sámi artist ever to perform at the legendary BBC Proms, taking the stage at Royal Albert Hall with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and Pekka Kuusisto.
Her work spans collaborations with major orchestras, commissions for theatre productions, award-winning performances, and innovative cross-disciplinary projects. Her critically acclaimed album Ruhttuo further cemented her reputation as a groundbreaking artist with unwavering artistic integrity.
At Tromsø World 2026, Barruk brings her full musical universe to Hovedscenen at Kulturhuset — a performance woven from strength, vulnerability, ancient tradition, and modern expression.
This will be one of the festival’s most memorable moments. A concert you don’t just hear — you feel it
